SNIPPETS OF WRITING
snip·pet n., sto·ries A bit, scrap, or morsel.
Writing exercises, fanfiction, parodies, assignments. I wrote them for various purposes (mainly no particular purpose
other than that I could), and, well, it was fun… I’m embarrassed to say, I never got around to finishing
all of them - but that was never the point of them.
Assumptions Doctor Who fanfiction: G. Nine, Rose.
A stranger’s brief encounter with the Doctor and Rose and the observations they form. - written 2006
Bad Dreams Doctor Who fanfiction: G. Nine, Rose.
Reflections on time travel and bad dreams - Rose talks to the Doctor after being unable to sleep. - written 2006
Lullaby Doctor Who fanfiction: PG. Nine, Rose.
"What do you have nightmares about, Doctor?" A sequel to Bad Dreams.
- written 2007
A Pirate's
Life This is the flash-back scene from the
start of the film “Pirates of the Caribbean: the curse of the Black Pearl”
written as a narrative. - date uncertain
Asking Why A children’s picture
book (without the pictures…I am NOT putting the original pictures I drew on the
net. I may not be able to draw well now, but I’m better than I was then) about
a child’s questioning. - written 2002
Chapter 22,
Mutation Frustrated with the quality of, well,
mainly grammar, I rewrote the final chapters of the Animorph book The Mutation
(#36) by K. A. Applegate. It either comes under the heading of “a writing
exercise” or really not particularly original “fan fiction”. - written 2003 or 2004
Dinnertime Genetics An amusing family discussion at dinnertime, about genetics. (I actually wrote this for science, believe it or not. It was a lot of fun to write, much more interesting than an essay!) - written 2004
Francesca's
Diary Based on the film Strictly Ballroom>,
this could be the diary of Fran, “the ugly ducking”. - written 2005
Going Back When studying Tomorrow when the war
began by John Marsden I was asked to write about what it would be like for
Ellie returning to Hell, once the war was over. - written 2003
Not Without
Hope This is the start of an alternative
ending to the Animorph series, by K.A Applegate. Instead of reading further than
book #49, I decided to write my own ending. (I never got any further than my
chapter three, due to evil inventions called school and homework.) It
therefore constitutes as fan fiction. - written 2004
Raider's
Tide Script For a while I wondered what the book
“Raider’s Tide” by Maggie Prince would be like if it were a film and decided
to write a screenplay. (I was insane enough to do it by hand.) Ultimately,
it’s not my own work. I didn’t come up with the plot, or the dialogue, just
rearranged what was already there into a different format. It was
like pulling something to pieces to see how it worked. I’ve done that now and I
haven’t typed it all, as there doesn’t seem to be a particular need. I’ve
discovered what I wanted to know… - written 2004 - 05
The Parody of
the Fellowship The Parody of the
Fellowship (Now that the copyright has lapsed… we wish!) Luthien, Em and I rewrote bits of the Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring,
which we shamelessly massacred. Proceed at risk, don’t expect any consistency as
we wrote as the muses (our senses of humour) moved us, and don’t say I
didn’t warn you! (However, nothing should be offensive or inappropriate, unless you're a Tolkien purist!) This part starts with the Hobbits meeting Strider at the inn in Bree and was mostly my work.
The Parody of the
Fellowship 2 Fragments (more of the above), including the poems of Tom Bombadil the fashion designer and parts of the Council of Elrond.
